Richard Morris was born on August 16, 1943 in Pittsburgh, to a steel family, and lived in a suburb of Cleveland. He graduated from Haverford College and Harvard University, and worked in various areas of the housing industry. As a second lieutenant rifle platoon leader in the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in Vietnam, 1967-1968, he learned first-hand about the startling tactics, spit-shined jungle boots, and fight songs of the Vietnam War. He writes in Bowie, Maryland, where he lives with his wife and enjoys his three children and three grandchildren.As battalion songwriter in Vietnam, he wrote twenty-five songs, which can be found at www.vietwarsongs.com, one of which—"Diggin A Hole"—received a Finalist award in the 2006 contest in the Vocal Jazz & Blues category of the 23rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest at the December 3, 2006 Gala at Jammin' Java in Vienna, Virginia.
